SAN ANTONIO (December 1, 2021) – The City of San Antonio is seeking candidates for four At-Large and seven district-appointed vacancies on the Buildings Standards Board (BSB) for a 2-year term expiring May 31, 2023. The BSB consists of two , 7-member panels that hear and rule on San Antonio Property Maintenance Code (SAPMC) violations and summary reduction appeals.

The Building Standards Board (BSB) is a citizen-based quasi-judicial council and consists of 14 members appointed by the city council. Landowners are permitted to appeal an SAPMC violation notice to the BSB based on issues of interpretation, intent and application of code requirements. The BSB can pronounce civil sanctions in the event of non-compliance with the SAPMC. The committees also rule on cases related to the repair or demolition of unsafe structures. Meetings are usually held at the Cliff Morton Development and Business Services Center, located at 1901 S. Alamo St.

The following BSB categories are currently vacant:

  • Architect (with experience in managing the adaptive reuse of historic buildings)
  • Engineer (with experience in managing the adaptive reuse of historic buildings)
  • General contractor (with experience in managing the adaptive reuse of historic buildings)
  • Health professional
  • Professional real estate manager
  • Social worker
  • Retired person (over 64)
