Festival at Sandpoint celebrates poster and artist ‘ENCORE’

Local photographer Woods Wheatcroft recently shot the 2022 art poster titled “YET AGAIN” for the 2022 Festival season at Sandpoint.

In choosing photo collage as the medium for her piece, Wheatcroft noted that photo collage, Polaroid, and instant photography remain a vital creative sidecar in the digital age as the motivation behind her selection.

Basically, Wheatcroft said the inspiration for the poster was the concept of community.

“People, friends, acquaintances and sincere snapshots are the basis of ENCORE”. Each person depicted on the poster represents a commitment to me: an observation, a capture of human expression and emotion,” Wheatcroft said.

His initial inspiration for the style of “ENCORE” was The Beatles Sgt. Pepper’s album cover, but it took many hours of experimentation to arrive at the process of creating the collage.

“Even after landing on a system that seemed viable, I had an ‘oh shit, what I got myself into’ moment,” Wheatcroft said. “Basically, the labor required has increased exponentially and has become very labor intensive.

In the end, the piece lasted about 75 hours.

Wheatcroft’s focus for the poster is the energy and connection one experiences during a Festival performance.

“The most vital part of the piece for me is showing all of these faces as a connected core, a core that contributes to the integrity and love of a very small and precious community,”

said Wheatcroft. “And while it’s seemingly impossible to include everyone, the value is in creating a work of art that reflects the importance of community and how we come together.”

The original work is exhibited at the Festival and available for purchase by the highest bidder. Copies of the poster are available for purchase at the office and on the Festival site for $10.
