SINGAPORE – FEBRUARY 14, 2022 – A group of critically acclaimed artists have come together to comment on the latest trend in the metaverse – to be digitally represented on social media as a great ape. These artists will unveil their identities in May, or when this first collection sells out, whichever comes first.
Hola Mona is a collection of 1,503 NFTs generated with original source material created by these award-winning artists. These unique digital collectibles have their proof of ownership on the Solana blockchain.
Hola Mona presents their take on the most parodied and iconic portrait in the history of fine art, the Portrait of Lisa Gherardini, better known as The Mona Lisa, seen through the modern lens of monkeys spinning the NFT world.
Each Hola Mona is a unique combination of a digital background designed by these career artists in their usual style that is featured in galleries or auctions, with a mask or headgear, hair color, design dress and make-up. or randomly generated body art from many possible strokes, all created by beautiful, classically trained artists.
With so many NFT projects started using mass-produced source material by anonymous amateur artists recruited from sites like Fiverr, these (currently anonymous) artists are gently joking about what it means to be an art creator in the world. NFT, and juxtapose this against their lived experiences in the mainstream art world across different continents.
Will Hola Mona NFTs be more valued for their fine art background (literally represented by the digital backgrounds in these artists’ sought-after styles, which slowly evolved from their art school training and decades of experience as professional artists) or for the prominent portrait of a Mona (Spanish for “monkey”) with different fun pop culture traits?
