Swedish home furnishings retailer IKEA on Thursday announced the launch of its e-commerce services and mobile shopping app in Bangalore.
There will be more than 8,000 furniture products and solutions to choose from, he said in a statement.
The company opened its second IKEA India store in Navi Mumbai in December 2020.
IKEA is already present online in Hyderabad, Mumbai, Pune, Ahmedabad, Surat and Vadodara.
The IKEA mobile shopping app offers product recommendations, ratings and reviews, as well as an “easier” search and browse experience, the statement said.
Customers can also find a built-in barcode scanner that will help them learn more about the products, including materials and dimensions, it was stated.
IKEA India CEO and CSO (Chief Sustainability Officer) Peter Betzel said Karnataka is a very important market for IKEA and Bengaluru is one of the largest home furnishings markets in India.
The company will also open a nearly 400,000 sq.ft. IKEA department store. in Nagasandra here within a year, and this store will be linked to Nagasandra metro station.
“Over time, we will also be opening a store in downtown Bengaluru to be even more accessible and connect with a lot more people,” Betzel said.
Over the next five years, at various IKEA businesses in Bangalore, the company plans to directly hire around 2,500 employees with 50% diversity across all levels and will generate nearly 1,200 indirect jobs related to its business operations, according to the communicated.
IKEA said it was working with nine furniture suppliers in Karnataka, including a social entrepreneur hiring 1,200 local artisans, increasing its local sourcing footprint in the state.
In the coming year, IKEA is preparing to open two stores in downtown Mumbai, it has been said.
