The Board of Directors of Kaya 959 is pleased to announce the appointment of Sibongile Mtyali as the new Managing Director of Kaya 959 effective June 1, 2021. Mtyali replaces the former Managing Director who resigned from his position in December 2020.
The appointment of Mtyali followed a very thorough and rigorous recruitment process led by the Nominations Committee of the Board of Directors which ensured that clear governance standards were met. In addition, the transparent process was also compliant and compliant with policies. The jury considered that the demonstrable experience relating to radio and media industry knowledge, industry expertise, leadership and culture corresponded to some of the priority areas during the process of selection.
Sibongile has 27 years of radio management experience, most of which at senior and executive levels within the SABC group. She currently holds the dual role of Station Manager for Metro FM and Acting General Manager for SABC (Radio). Prior to that, she held the positions of Station Manager for the following radio stations, Radio 2000, Motsweding FM and Acting Station Manager for Thobela FM. Earlier in her career, she also served as Program Manager and Executive Producer for SABC.
His extensive experience and industry knowledge has enabled him to successfully lead turnaround and disaster recovery strategies for a wide range of radio stations. Under his leadership, the 16th and 17th Metro FM Music Awards were a resounding success. His qualifications have provided him with a solid foundation to cross all strategic levels. Among his qualifications, Mtyali has a GIBS Leadership Development Program and a Wits Management Development Program. To further contribute to the development of the radio industry as a whole, she chaired the National Community Radio Forum in the Northwest Province for two years.
