In an update on its website, Rockstar confirmed that active development of the next entry in the Grand Theft Auto series is underway.
Grand Theft Auto V is a thrilling action-adventure game with cool cars and a next level of online mischief. Rockstar Games released this game in 2013, which makes it quite an old title. This had gamers wondering if Rockstar intended to follow it up with a new entry. It turned out that Rockstar is already developing the next entry in the GTA series.
The successor to GTA V is in development
In an update on its website, Rockstar confirmed that active development of the next entry in the Grand Theft Auto series is underway. The publisher said the project will go significantly beyond what it has already delivered, adding that it will share more information once it is ready with the latest entry in the Grand Theft Auto series.
Rockstar, however, hasn’t specified whether the newest entry in the Grand Theft Auto series will carry the title Grand Theft Auto 6 or GTA 6. In terms of release, GTA V is actually the seventh mainline entry and 15th installment overall. . Two GTA entries did not have a number: GTA Vice City and GTA: San Andreas. Nonetheless, for the sake of continuity, fans and enthusiasts are calling the decade-old GTA V successor GTA 6.
No timetable set for the release of GTA 6
If Rockstar has indeed confirmed the development of GTA 6, it has not revealed a timetable for its release. There have been seven titles since Rockstar released Grand Theft Auto (the first) in 1997. GTA 2, GTA III, GTA Vice City and GTA: San Andreas followed in just seven years. Four years later, in 2008, GTA IV hit the scene, with GTA V arriving five years later in 2013.
GTA 6 may have been long overdue, but Rockstar managed to sweeten the wait by releasing remastered versions of GTA III, GTA: Vice City, and GTA: San Andreas in 2021 via a bundle called Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition.
