I see these four Guinness Book of World Records as a reflection of a Hanyu Pinyin-inspired life cycle of the word Ai. In Hanyu Pinyin, like Ai’s name, the first sound refers to Ai1 Sorrow 哀. The fourth sound refers to Ai4 愛. I believe that the way we start our life does not necessarily decide the rest of our life. Even though we start our lives with heartbreak, we can all eventually find love.
Let me elaborate. I was once a child who was told he couldn’t hold a pencil properly and couldn’t draw well. I was kicked out of a free trial art class because I could afford future class fees. Today, the same child drew the world’s largest drawing, taught the world’s greatest art lessons, drew the world’s longest drawing, and allowed other young people to draw the longest drawing. of the world.
The four Guinness World Records are: World’s longest cartoon (356 m²) on October 1, 2007; the largest art lesson in the world (1,893 participants in 12 countries) on October 2, 2010; the largest drawing in the world by an individual (601 m long) on October 4, 2014; and the longest drawing in the world (9.58 km long) on October 4, 2014.
I see the first record as doing my best to do my best, and the last one as empowering others. I believe there are many ways to give, and giving back and giving forward are two of the most beautiful ways to give. This is why I involved the children of Ang Mo Kio and the young people around me in my latest Guinness Book of Records.
WHAT MADE YOU WANT TO HAVE A WORLD RECORD?
While I think all artists should be proud of what they do, I also think it’s competitive, tiring, stressful and often expensive to be number one in the world – not for yourself, but for the people who care about you and worry about you.
I believe there is another way, a better way. Instead of competing to be number one, let’s focus on being the only one. It means a blue ocean. It means you set the rules.
YOU ARE ALSO THE WORLD’S MOST SEEN DIGITAL ARTIST ON GIPHY. WAS IT SOMETHING YOU PURSUED OR SOMETHING THAT JUST HAPPENED?
