Why a Twitter creator ditched his Super Follows subscription program

  • TarotByBronx is an astrologer and tarot reader with over 190,000 Twitter followers.
  • In August 2021, they joined Twitter’s subscription service called Super Follows.
  • Bronx breaks down how much they earned on Super Follows — and why they left.

TarotByBronx’s content creation journey began on YouTube. They released their first tarot card reading video in 2017, and today their channel has over 140,000 subscribers.

But it’s on Twitter that Bronx — which uses a nickname for privacy reasons — has its biggest following. They now have over 190,000 followers on the platform, where they post several short videos and tweets a day with horoscopes and card readings.

Because of this sequel, the Bronx was thrilled when Twitter launched Super Follows in August 2021. Super Follows is a subscription program that allows creators with more than 10,000 Twitter followers to offer exclusive content to fans for a fee. monthly. The service is still being tested, according to Twitterand only creators who have been selected by the platform or those who have applied and been accepted can access it.

“It was something very new, fresh and exciting,” they said of their selection to try out Super Follows. “It looked like it was going to work really well.”

But just four months later, in January 2022, the Bronx decided to drop out.

The amount of work they had to put into creating new content for Super Followers didn’t generate enough money to be worth it, Bronx said.

From August to January, they attracted 150 Super Followers who paid $2.99 per month. They earned just over $600 in total from the program, according to documentation seen by Insider.

Some of the Bronx followers had technical issues accessing the Twitter subscription model, they said.

“A lot of people were asking me, ‘How do I sign up?’ or ‘I don’t see it’, ‘I don’t have it.'” Bronx said. “I didn’t like it, because it should be as simple as possible if you want people to sign up, and there was nothing I could do about it.”

Super Follows is still being tested in beta and is currently only available for iOS devices in the United States and Canada, Twitter told Insider.

Bronx also felt that the new Twitter feature didn’t bring anything new to the table and didn’t differ enough from the non-paying version of the social platform.

“I thought I was going to be able to do video calls or, you know, something more community-oriented,” they said. “I felt really disconnected from the followers.”

Twitter told Insider that the platform collects feedback and data to improve service and improve user experience, like a new iOS function which allows followers to enable specific notifications from the accounts they “super follow”.

For now, Bronx – which has 170,000 TikTok followers, 16,000 Instagram followers and 1,100 followers on

– continues as a creator without the program.

Most of their income, they said, comes from Patreon, on which users can access paid content for a monthly fee. Bronx offers two subscription tiers, one for $5.55 and one for $7.77 per month. The content they offered to their Super Followers was similar to what they shared on Patreon.

Fans can also book custom plays through Patreon and through the Bronx website. Typed responses to a specific question cost $30, while recorded readings range from $100 to $200, depending on the number and type of customer inquiries.

The rest of Bronx’s revenue comes from ads on YouTube and the sale of products, like candles and oils, on their website.

While Super Follows isn’t for them, they hope to grow their business by partnering with brands and eventually they hope to open their own storefront to sell products and do in-person card readings.
